Geneology of Noah Blows Your Mind

Ever find yourself skimming over those chapters in the Bible where they say “X begot Y, then Y begot Z, … then Z had a son named A”?

Consider Genesis 5.  This is the genealogy of Noah.  We often forget that (most) names have meaning behind them, especially during biblical times.  Names were purposeful and symbolic.  Now look at the names of Noah’s ancestors in the order of their appearance:

  • Adam - Man
  • Seth - appointed
  • Enosh - mortal
  • Kenan - sorrow
  • Mahalalel - the Blessed God
  • Jared - shall come down
  • Enoch - teaching
  • Methuselah - His death shall bring
  • Lamech - the despairing
  • Noah - rest and comfort

Read the meanings in line and think about the implication.  If you’re thinking Jesus Christ, none would disagree.
